Ahhh ... childhood .... not a soft fluffy cardi and warm Wheatabix for all! For some it was a time of creeping shadows, confusion, neglect, abuse, blows, beatings, threats and terror. A time when all hope turned to despair and all dreams to nightmares. A dark, dark time lurking still in the distant dusty corridors of memory. Shamain sees a remembering and a turning back to my childhood passion of re-fashioning, re-constructing and re-painting my own special dolls. They are not pretty and they are not toys, but do need to be cherished and loved, perhaps more so, otherwise they may behave badly!
Many of these dolls are created from Victorian reproduction porcelain dolls (mostly kept in show cabinets since new), or Berenguer vinyl dolls and parts designed for reborning. All of these creations are fashioned from the second hand, the discarded and the unwanted, either full dolls, or just odd heads or limbs, and often incorporate objects such as broken jewellery, rags, twigs, feathers, leaves, bones, taxidermy bits and the like. Each one carries its own magickal numinousity, is totally unique, is numbered and comes with a signed certificate.
